*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|* https://preservewm.com We've been keeping up with the latest headlines... here are two of our favorites worth sharing. ** Your Money ------------------------------------------------------------ Everyone has a different idea of what it means to retire, but a recent survey of over 15,000 retirees recently identified the biggest common challenge...and it's one that no one is talking about. Money was mentioned but it wasn't near the top of the list. To sum up the top 3 challenges (regret, health, and identity) into one, the biggest challenge no one is talking about is finding purpose. An exercise to help find or redefine your purpose involves reviewing activities that allow you to answer yes to any combination of these four questions: 1. Are you doing an activity that you love? 2. Are you good at it? 3. Does the world need what you offer? 4. Can you get paid for doing it? As important, if not more, is allowing your purpose to thrive by considering: 1. Does the activity allow you to start small and improve over time? 2. Does the activity allow you to release yourself? 3. Does the activity pursue harmony and sustainability? 4. Does the activity allow you to enjoy the little things? 5. Does the activity allow you to focus on the here and now? A 67-year-old who ‘un-retired’ shares the biggest retirement challenge ‘that no one talks about’ (https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/15/67-year-old-who-unretired-at-62-shares-the-biggest-retirement-challenge-that-no-one-talks-about.html?__source=iosappshare%7Ccom.apple.UIKit.activity.Mail) by George Jerjian ** Your Life ------------------------------------------------------------ As a complement to the #YourMoney article this week, I wanted to add one more important aspect to consider when thinking about a happy, healthy, and vibrant life post-retirement. As my 18-year-old daughter prepares for college, I found myself telling her how important it is to “find your people” in a new environment. You find this through an active, healthy social life by creating a new circle of friends (in addition to your existing friends) in your new environment. I realized that this same advice is also relevant to retirees. While my daughter has to make schoolwork her first priority, retirees do not have this worry and can just focus on enjoying their life through friendships. This article is old but its words are timeless and certainly ring true today. As sung by Barbra Streisand, “People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.” Why It’s Important To Stay Social In Retirement And How To Do It (https://www.forbes.com/sites/robpascale/2019/10/31/staying-social-in-retirement/?sh=5dd84556779b) by Rob Pascale https://www.linkedin.com/in/danheth/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/rosalynn-harvey-heth-mpa-ceps-3a3aa3191/ ** Complexity Simplified ------------------------------------------------------------ Global warming is wreaking havoc on our once-predictable weather patterns. That said, you need to be prepared for anything from tornadoes to floods to storms and winter weather. Here’s a great website with links to different toolkits to prepare for any weather.
