The IRS automatically extended the 2019 tax return filing deadline from April 15 to July 15, 2020. For some, that still wasn't enough time to collect all the information needed to prepare a return. For those folks that filed an extension, that deadline has arrived. It's this week: October 15, 2020. And, if you always wondered why there is a line at the post office on tax day, it's because the penalties for late taxes are pretty steep! Late-filing penalties can mount up at a rate of 5% of the amount due with your return for each month that you're late. If you are more than 60 days late, the minimum penalty is $100 or 100% of the tax due with the return, whichever is less. There are no penalties if you are entitled to a refund but don't expect any interest earned on your "loan" to the IRS. Owing too much could also be a problem. Another user-friendly tool is the IRS YouTube Channel where you can watch exciting videos like this one on Estimated Tax Payments (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PWcQGMdvP8&feature=emb_logo) . Of course, any respectable tax advisor would keep you in good graces with the IRS. During this time each year, you can do initial sign-up or drop and switch your plan coverage for medications. Don’t ignore this. It could save you a significant amount of money. Focus on choosing the plan that covers your current regular medications. Companies change coverages for medications all the time.
