*|MC_PREVIEW_TEXT|* https://preservewm.com We've been keeping up with the latest headlines... here are two of our favorites worth sharing. ** Your Money ------------------------------------------------------------ The busiest week of earnings season is here with roughly a third of the S&P 500 and 12 of the Dow 30 companies reporting. What can we tell from the earnings reports we have so far? Well, it's not going to be good ... like one of the worst earnings drops in history. But we knew that was going to be the case, and the market has already looked through this news toward the future. As usual, but perhaps a little surprising, companies are beating extremely lowered estimates at about the same pace as they do under normal circumstances. The good news is that the analyst herd, despite the lack of company guidance, was fairly accurate. Overall, this could mean we have less uncertainty about future earnings than originally thought. Add some company specific future guidance to the mix and we will surely have more visibility about returning to real growth by 2021. What is the earnings season telling us so far? Federal scam-fighters offer advice on how to avoid becoming a victim: 1. Be very wary of offers for free COVID-19 testing kits and protective gear. These individuals/groups will not deliver and only want to get your information. 2. Don’t give out your Medicare number. 3. Social Security will never call you unsolicited to request information or payment for any reason. 4. The US census will never ask you for your full social security number, bank account or credit card information. 5. Ensure you have strong passwords on your most critical internet accounts. Avoid clicking on any suspicious links or webpages. 6. The IRS will not call you, text you or email you. 7. Be wary of phone calls or emails from individuals who claim to represent WHO, CDC, or similar organizations. 8. Seniors, in particular, are a vulnerable target and should not give out information, money, or engage strangers by phone or email. 9. Ignore online offers for COVID-19 vaccinations and at-home test kits. 10. Be wary of someone you don’t know that offers to help you—especially those that offer to buy supplies for you with payment in advance. 11. Do not answer calls from numbers you do not recognize or click on links in texts or emails from unknown senders. 12. Remember that impersonation scams are on the rise—especially those that claim to be your grandchild (or such relatives) and are in trouble and need your help. 12 Tips from top feds to avoid during the pandemic (https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/info-2020/expert-tips-fraud-pandemic.html) by Katherine Skiba https://www.linkedin.com/in/danheth/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/rosalynn-harvey-heth-mpa-ceps-3a3aa3191/ ** Complexity Simplified ------------------------------------------------------------ Because of the rise in fraud and scams during such a chaotic time in our country, it’s even more important to use strong passwords, particularly for your very important accounts, like online banking, etc. If you feel like me, it’s tiresome to keep up with so many passwords…some with capital letters, some with numbers, some with “special characters,” etc. So, now I use an online password manager. Here’s a link to a list of them, free and for pay, that will make it easier to manage your passwords so you don’t have to remember each one.
