Chairman Powell dashed those hopes last week when he said, "We will keep at it until we are confident the job is done." While rate increases would bring down inflation, Mr. Powell said, "they will also bring some pain to households and businesses." He added, "These are the unfortunate costs of reducing inflation. But a failure to restore price stability would mean far greater pain." Mr. Powell cited projections Fed officials made in June in which most thought they would need to raise rates to slightly below 4% through the end of next year. This thinking pushed back against some investors' expectations that the Fed would pivot faster to cutting rates next year. Markets are awaiting the Fed's next meeting in September to see if the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee will enact a third consecutive 0.75 percentage point increase. It’s the age-old question of what creates the people we are. By the same token, genes vs. lifestyle looks at what matters most specifically for your health. We start to question this aspect when we hear stories of people who were lifelong smokers and never exercised but lived well into old age and died of natural causes or the marathon runner who was a life-long vegetarian but died suddenly of a heart attack in middle age. The reality is that these examples are rare and considered outliers by scientists. WebMd.com writes that staying healthy is mostly a matter of our choices. Although your genes can raise your risk for many diseases, they don’t typically work alone. It’s rarely a single gene that determines whether you will get a disease or not. Even then, the genetic predisposition may only be triggered by certain aspects of your environment or lifestyle. Genes vs. Lifestyle: Which Matters More for Health?
