A trust can look finished on paper and still fail where it matters most. The documents may be signed, notarized, and neatly stored away, but if key assets were never retitled or coordinated properly, the plan may not work the way the family expects. Homes, bank accounts, brokerage accounts, and other assets can easily remain outside the trust, which can leave loved ones facing delays, court involvement, and a much messier estate settlement than intended.
This is a useful reminder that estate planning is not just about having documents in place. It is also about implementation and follow-through. A good plan needs periodic review, especially after refinances, new accounts, inherited assets, or other major life changes. At PWM, this is exactly the kind of detail we want surfaced before it becomes a problem for the next generation.

A big medical bill can trigger the same reaction as any other unpleasant surprise in life: the urge to make it disappear immediately. Pay it, stop thinking about it, move on. But not every number that lands in the mailbox is as final as it looks. Sometimes the better first move is simply to pause, ask questions, and give yourself room to understand what you are actually being asked to pay.
That is true beyond medicine, too. Some of the most expensive mistakes come from assuming the first version of a problem is the fixed version. A little patience can create better options, lower stress, and a better outcome than a rushed decision made in fear.

Finding a ready-to-eat avocado at the store can feel like finding a four-leaf clover because most avocados are sold hard and finish ripening after harvest, not before. The trick at home is to trap the natural ethylene gas they release as they soften. Put the avocado in a paper bag, ideally with a banana or apple, and ripening usually speeds up over a day or two. The bag concentrates the gas. The extra fruit adds more of it. What feels like luck is mostly just timing and chemistry.
