Your Life
Unless you’ve stopped watching TV, reading articles, and looking at your computer, you have heard the huge healthy eating trend call the Mediterranean diet. First of all, people on this WOE (way of eating…yes, new acronym) will quickly point out that this is NOT a diet but a decision to live a healthier lifestyle. The difference? A diet is a strict interpretation of what, how much, and when you can eat. A lifestyle is much looser and encompasses a foundational guideline.
For the Mediterranean Diet, this foundation is based on traditional eating habits of countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea which is limited carbs with a plate filled with 50% fresh vegetables, 25% protein preferably poultry or seafood, and 25% starch like beans, potatoes, grains, and nuts. It is popular because the food is so flavorful, and a daily glass of red wine is acceptable. The AHA agrees that it can help you create a healthy diet that includes weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight.
