On January 15, President Trump and Chinese Vice Premier (not President Xi) signed what's being called the Phase 1 Chinese Trade Deal.  While some speculate on Xi's absence, Wall Street applauded the deal by setting fresh record highs.

What's in it?
  • China agreed to strengthen its laws to protect patents, intellectual property, trademarks, and trade secrets.
  • China removed requirements for technology transfer during joint ventures or investment transactions.
  • China increases US imports by $200 billion (over 2017 levels) during 2020 and 2021.
What's not in it?
  • Tariff use is tempered but still in place with no sign of elimination.
  • There is no change to the Chinese government's practice of subsidizing Chinese businesses.
  • There is no enforcement policy to any of this ... so if one side feels jilted, expect more tariffs (or at least a Tweet!)
Phase 1 implies a Phase 2.  We'll be keeping an eye out.

Oh, no!  It’s time to serve the wine but you forgot to chill it.  No worries and no need to spend any money on electric wine chillers or stress with ice.  Just put green (for white wine) and red (for red wine…yes, some people like it cold) grapes in the freezer.  Pull it out and place in the wine glass.  Then pour your wine.  It’s a quick and easy way to chill each glass without diluting the wine.
