Your Money

There were no shortage of explanations for the large drop in stocks last week.  Among them:

  • Fed Chair Jerome Powell delivered a gloomy economic outlook
  • COVID cases spike out of FL, AZ, and TX
  • Wells Fargo predicted their need for larger loan loss provisions
  • Overbought condition from a six week run
  • Biden's rise in the polls

Your Life

Many of us have been quarantining for about 3 months now.  On the bright side, it’s allowed us to catch up on long-delayed tasks such as work and home projects; organizing closets and shelves; catching up on book reading; etc.  You know what else it did?  For some, it allowed us to stagnate and maybe put on a few pounds.  Not sure?  Check out this easy to use BMI (body mass index) calculator from AARP to determine how healthy your weight is.

How healthy is your weight

According to the AARP article, typically, people with higher BMIs have a greater likelihood of developing conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and type 2 diabetes.  Of course, other factors such as family history, eating habits, and activities level also influence your overall health.

BMI has limits, and recommendations differ based on gender and other variables.  If you have questions or concerns, please consult your doctor or health care provider.  If you don’t have an emergency, many can provide guidance via virtual care (also called telemedicine or telehealth) through video so you don’t even have to risk leaving home.  #KeepHealthy

Complexity Simplified

It’s COVID-19, but it’s also summer, and for me, that means gardening.  This year, I decided to try planting Brussels sprouts—which is a family favorite.  I watched little plants grow bigger and bigger with small sprouts turning into large cabbage-like leaves.  I was so excited with visions of roasted or fried Brussels sprouts all summer served with a side of spicy aioli.  YUM!

Well, imagine my frustration to see bugs eating the leaves on my plants!  It’s the weekend so I did not feel like battling the crowds at Lowe’s.  What to do?  Make my own natural pesticide!  I used Recipe #1 from Gardening Know How website.  Easy Peasy.  #NoMoreBugs
