There's an old saying that the stock market hates uncertainty. That seems to have really been what last week was all about.  Goldman Sachs recently commented on the "highly uncertain" trajectory of the US and global economy.

Their research note continues to model three scenarios:
  1. upside - the coronavirus is quickly contained and the S&P 500's earnings grow by 3% in 2020
  2. BASE CASE - the coronavirus is widespread but short-lived and the S&P 500 collectively earns $165/share, representing 0% growth
  3. downside - the coronavirus leads to severe pandemic with prolonged business and community disruption and a recession
Interestingly, in both the upside and the base case, Goldman's year-end target for the S&P 500 is 3,400 ... that's a +14% gain from Friday's close.

Your Life

The fear of coronavirus is hitting a fevered pitch…and understandably so.  I’m worried, too.  However, we are not powerless and we have practical methods to put in place and limit our risk. Like the regular flu season:
  • avoid large crowds, if possible
  • wash your hands regularly
  • clean and disinfect surfaces
Also, don’t be hesitant to check with your doctor or walk-in urgent care clinic if you have aches/fever, cough, or other flu symptoms.  Better to get help early.  #BeInformed #BeSafe #BeWell

Complexity Simplified

Spring Break season has begun and thousands of folks had travel plans set before the Coronavirus headlines began.  If you're traveling and someone in your party has a cold (like we are and we do), get to the doctor first so you can bring documentation with vitals and a diagnosis just in case you get questioned.  And wear a paper mask to limit spreading germs.
