Your Life
Stress and aging are two realities in life. While handling stress can be a little easier when we are young, the effects on our bodies change as we age. Constantly dealing with a state of stress can cause elevated blood pressure, problems with the immune system, anxiety, depression, heartburn, digestion issues, and more. As you age, your body responds differently to physical and cognitive stress. The good news is there are some easy ways to identify and relieve stress to improve your overall health. Stress symptoms to be aware of include changes in mood, eating, concentration/memory, excessive fatigue, sudden weight loss or gain, more physical pain, social isolation, and disregarding personal hygiene and care. Stress relief activities include meditation, deep breathing and brain exercises, and reducing stress triggers. Aging does not need to mean the end of an active and fun lifestyle if we continue to care for ourselves physically and mentally.
